The museum reopens after six months of closure

Saturday, March 12 last The Whale Museum in Húsavík reopened its doors to visitors and pedestrians after six months of closure. The museum has gone through a lot of changes in the last six months. The wreck that washed ashore at Ásbúðir á Skaga in 2010 has been put up for exhibition and visitors were invited to view the new exhibition, which brought great happiness to the estimated 300 visitors who made their way to the museum that day. Guests were offered delicious refreshments on the occasion of the reopening of the museum, where the whale cake was a hit. Since there are not many skeletons of cetaceans in the world, this is a unique opportunity for the museum to have such a frame on display, and we hope that as many people as possible will come and see the new exhibition. The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 14 p.m. every weekday, and there will also be free admission to the museum on March 14-18.

The Húsavík Whale Museum reopened to the public last Saturday the 12th of March after having been closed for six months. Many changes have been made in the exhibitions in the last six months. The blue whale that beached at Skaga in Northwest Iceland in 2010 is ready to be exhibited. More than 300 guests came on the opening day to view this new exhibition and had light refreshments. The skeleton of the blue whale is one of only a few exhibited blue whale skeletons in the world today and it is our hope that as many as possible will come to the museum and view this new exhibition. The museum is open on weekdays from 9am to 2pm and it is free of charge from the 14th to the 18th of March.
