As mentioned, the Whaling Museum is currently working on a project in collaboration with the Whaling Museum in New Bedford, Massachusetts, USA. The project is called Connecting Coastal Communities and aims to connect the coastal communities of Húsavík and New Bedford through museum cooperation and youth exchanges.
The project is funded by the American Alliance of Museums, as well as the US Department of State through the US Embassy, and in addition, the embassy's staff has supported the project with advice and admiration since the beginning of the application process.
As the final part of the project and really the icing on the cake, the participants get to travel to New Bedford, USA in May. where they will stay for about a week. But before leaving, travelers need to apply for a special visa at the US Embassy, as it is a grant from an American organization.
The American Embassy has loyally supported the project from the beginning and was therefore delighted when the participants were invited to a coffee meeting with the American Ambassador to Iceland, Robert C. Barber.
Here, Huld Hafliðadóttir, project manager, hands over the project shirts to Ambassador Robert Barber.
