The whale museum in Húsavík got a better lift today when artworks by the Spanish artist Renata Ortega were installed on the south side of the building. It was Trésmiðjan Val ehf. who was responsible for the implementation and installation of the artworks. According to Heiðar Hrafn Halldórsson, the project manager of the museum, the idea for the artworks came up in connection with major renovations to the building. The museum's staff wanted to prepare a certain variation of the distinctive whale paintings that characterized the exterior of the museum in the years 2001-2018. The works of art were therefore considered welcome as they cover old steel windows that were starting to show a lot.
Heiðar, who also sits on the Executive and Planning Council of Norðurþing, says he hopes the trick will encourage more people to do the same. Works of art like this are the greatest home decoration and enliven existence.
