There were almost 2019 visitors to the Whale Museum in Húsavík in July 10. That is an increase of over 11% from 2018 and more than visited the museum in July 2017. Germans and Americans remain large as a percentage of the total number of visitors, but there has also been a good attendance from many Central European countries, not least France.
This increase in the number of visitors during the high season must be considered extremely pleasant and even unexpected news for the Whale Museum. Following the news about the collapse of WOW Air last spring, it was thought likely that there would be a large decrease in tourist arrivals to the country, and that this would have a negative impact on the countryside. It is therefore extremely gratifying to experience an indication that the number of tourists is not decreasing, even though it is not possible to apply the number of visitors to the Whale Museum to the total number of tourists visiting the North.
