The Húsavík Whale Museum is participating in International Museum Day 2026, which is held on May 18th each year at the initiative of the International Council of Museums, ICOM. The day is dedicated to the important role of museums in society, not least as a platform for education, cultural exchange, understanding and dialogue between people.
The theme of International Museum Day 2026 is "Museums Uniting a Divided World", or "Museums unite a divided world"The theme emphasizes how museums can build bridges between different communities, cultures, and perspectives and create space for diverse voices and shared experiences.
On this occasion, the Whale Museum offers guests free guided tours of the museum on the afternoon of May 18. The tours will be in English, Polish, Greek and Icelandic and are open to everyone.

The Whale Museum encourages residents and visitors to come visit, learn about whales and the ocean, and participate in an international day where museums around the world remind us of the importance of culture, knowledge, and conversation.
Access to the guided tours is free.
Up to 30 people per guided tour. First come, first served.
